Which egret has yellow feet

They forgot that the birds earn money by selling lemonade. See what I mean? Not too bright. Egrets and herons are an odd group of birds. They are tall, long-legged and gangly, spending most of their time slowly stalking prey in scummy ponds and murky swamps.

Snowies are a little more elegant and look less menacing than many of their family members. And they are much sleeker than the stubby, hunched-over Black-crowned Night-Herons, which look like something that should be ringing a bell in Notre Dame. The key feature of the Snowy Egret is, of course, their snow-white plumage. During the breeding season some of these white plumes become especially fluffy and showy.

Fortunately, this practice is no longer legal or in style. A new, disturbing fad has sprung up in recent years. Nivalis Posted April 1, Charlie Spencer Posted April 2, Posted April 2, Lew Scharpf Posted August 25, Posted August 25, Thank you, Lew Scharpf. Seanbirds Posted August 25, Laura Posted July They are rarely seen inland on fresh-water bodies of water.

They are a handsome bird with brilliant white plumage, black bill and, as mentioned already, black legs and yellow feet. From a distance, however, or without a size reference they can easily be confused with a Great Egret, even though Great Egrets stand nearly 40 inches tall. Great Egrets are also commonly seen along coastal and brackish waters of New England from spring through fall and very occasionally in the winter. Great Egrets are more likely to be seen inland than Snowy Egrets.

Great Egrets are also a brilliant white with black legs. They, however, have yellow bills and black feet. So a good way to tell a Snowy Egret from a Great Egret is to look at the feet. Great Egrets are solid black on legs and feet. Snowy Egrets have black legs and yellow feet. That's all fine and dandy, but what if the bird in question is standing in water, which these birds often are?

Foot color is of no help because you can't see the feet.
