Who is paper made

We plant over a millions trees in our plantations every year before they are transported to our mills to be turned into paper. Papermaking actually involves various processes to turn that wood log into our everyday paper products. However there are three key steps to the process of papermaking. To kick-start the pulping process, the logs are debarked.

The bark has to be stripped from the logs since it cannot be use in papermaking. The water used is filtered on the spot and reused for other logs, reducing the amount of water wastage. Together with other by-products of the manufacturing process, they are used to generate electricity to power up the mills and nearby towns. The debarked logs are then chipped into small pieces before undergoing a process called chemical pulping.

This process breaks down the chemical called lignin, and the result is, pulp! Pulp is like a thicker, less refined version of paper. Recycling paper helps make sure we get the most out of every tree we use. And it helps keep paper from clogging up our landfills.

Paperboard is the material used to make folded cartons, liquid packaging, paper cups and plates and printing paper.

It needs to be strong, uniform and clean. This video shows the process of turning pulp into products we use every day. Most people know that paper products come from trees. The wood chip cooking process results in a by-product called black liquor, which can be processed into white liquor and used in the pulp production process.

The excess gases from this process are captured to produce methanol, a renewable energy source that is used to fuel our mill. Black liquor can also be used in our recovery boiler as a biofuel, along with bark and other organic material left over from the production process. Water also plays a key role in the paper making process. Other raw materials include sunlight and CO2. The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, or PEFC, is an international, non-profit and non-governmental organisation that provides independent third-party certification to ensure sustainable use of forest resources.

The best of these go on to the elongation stage where they grow into plantlets, which are strong enough to survive outdoors STEP 2- Nursery The next stop is the nursery, where the tissue culture plantlets, together with cuttings produced in the nursery, are grow into saplings that are about cm high over the course of approximately two months.

STEP 3 - Renewable plantations Next, they are moved to our renewable plantations, where they will grow for the next five to six years, using CO2 as a raw material and providing oxygen to the air until they are ready for harvest. After harvest, the plantations will be planted with new saplings and the cycle begins again.
