Goldberg was known for inventing complex machines to do simple tasks. An example would be a machine with elaborate pulleys that uses a step process to open an envelope with a letter in it, something a person can do very simply in a matter of seconds.
Many guys make a simple process like asking a girl to a dance into something that is needlessly complex and worrying. In fact even the thought of asking a girl to the homecoming dance might be making you nauseous right now! As a high school senior, I worked up a lot of nerve to ask Niki to homecoming. I worried about when I would do it, what I would say, and what others might say, because she was a few years younger than I was.
In the end, my friend Kevin asked her out for me. We did have some fun there, but nothing romantic ever came from it. Most girls are just waiting to be asked out, but guys make this process harder. It is hard to convince guys that asking a girl to a dance is not a big deal.
And trust me guys, it is no big deal. The simplest way to ask a girl to a dance, date, etc, is to…wait for it… just ask her. Keep in mind that there are multiple askings per day as the dance draws near, so the spotlight will not be on you for that long. For example, if big crowds make you nervous, you can ask them privately. But, who to ask? Homecoming can be an opportunity for a new relationship to bloom. You could ask their friend to subtly inquire whether or not you would be turned down.
The truth is that this topic should be of concern to anyone, regardless of their interest in taking a special someone to the dance. When it comes to these things, you will never know unless you try. So, with that said, take a risk this October. Have fun with it, and make this homecoming one for the ages. So excited for Homecoming with Jono!
