She'll likely bring something different to table from the usual late-night talk show host guys who usually end up MCing these events, and is even up for an award herself as "Scene Stealer" for Girls Trip. The evening's main focus is on film and television, but there's plenty of music-related connections to keep the "M" in MTV. More offbeat categories include Best On-Screen Team, partly acknowledging the swell of mega-crossovers Black Panther and Ready Player One , as well as vintage-tinged horror shows Stranger Things and the reboot of It , and Best Fight, acknowledging the choreography and skill involved in film battles, and also just that they look super cool.
Stranger Things also scored a total of seven noms, including for best show and best performance in a show for Millie Bobby Brown, who last year received an Emmy nom for her role as Eleven. Disney was the top studio with a total of 15 noms. On the TV side, shows earning multiple noms include Riverdale with four and Game of Thrones with three. Netflix leads all TV networks and streamers with 10 total noms. You can see the full list of nominees here. Black Panther l eads the film nominations with seven chances to win, while the television nominations are dominated by Stranger Things , 13 Reasons Why and Riverdale.
